I should tell you from the get-go that I am not-so-secretly in love with Stephen Colbert (despite being happily married). It’s been a thing ever since his early days on The Daily Show, through nine years of The Colbert Report, and remains still undiminished today. And one of The Late Show bits I consistently enjoy is the public access Community Calendar he pseudo-broadcasts from various small-towns in America (or recently, England), highlighting their unique cultural offerings…

I decided to try one of my own for Delray Beach and the greater Palm Beach County area for this weekend (minus the low-fi audio/video), to give you a small slice of life here in South Florida:

Friday, February 10th

  • Delray Beach Playhouse presents “Once Upon a Posturpedic” – Pillow talk is fine and dandy, but do couples really have to share everything? Billy and Flo’s new mattress is quite comfy, but the conversation? Not so much. delraybeachplayhouse.com 2pm

  • Delray Beach Playhouse presents “The Odd Couple” – Felix is a neat-freak who manages to find a fault in everything. Oscar is an unrepentant slob who takes great pleasure in life.   • Avery Sommers presents “I Love Being Here With You” at Arts Garage – This special show features songs from the Great American songbook and from Broadway Shows (like Ain’t Misbehavin’ and Chicago). Saturday, February 11th

  • 18th Annual Everglades Festival – Free outdoor, family and age-friendly festival co-sponsored by ASE. “Mother Nature’s Magic Show” is the theme for this full day of live wild-life presentations, interactive games, guest speakers, exhibits, live music, food, and more, including the chance for a guided hike into this national treasure, America’s Everglads.   • Hearts-n-Bloom Garden Tea Party – Guests will enjoy a Mimosa Garden Stroll, followed by a traditional tea party of the Great Lawn, adjacent to Mounts Butterfly Garden. Attendees are encouraged to wear their best “garden hat” for inclusion in the Designer Hat Fashion Show, and participate in a fun and fantastic garden auction with rare and exotic plants.
