Oakland Love

I recently returned from a week back in Oakland, and all I can say is, I was seriously feelin’ the LOVE

It’s the same feeling I had back in November when, in the wake of the surprising election, the San Francisco Board of Supervisors unanimously passed an “11-point Resolution responding to the election of Donald Trump by reaffirming San Francisco’s commitment to the values of inclusivity, respect, and dignity.”

It’s the feeling I had in January when Tim & I participated in the Women’s March in Miami alongside tens of thousands of men, women, and children – just one of hundreds of marches organized across the country and globe. Did you see the folks in Antarctica?

It’s the feeling I had in the aftermath of the first travel ban, when lawyers and activists rushed to airports nationwide, volunteering their time and services to assist travelers who might be subject to unlawful detainment or deportment. #Heroes

And it’s the feeling I had walking all over the great city of Oakland, seeing the literal signs of solidarity and inclusivity posted everywhere. I tried to document as many as I could. Below is a representative sampling…

In my mind, this is what community looks like. Being willing to tape a sign on your door, stake it in your yard, hang it in your business window, to say, THIS is what we believe, and this is what we’ll stand up for. Even fight for, if necessary.
